DailyArtPractice
I began to make my small 2x2 in paintings in December of 2022. The initial plan was simply just to get myself back to a daily practice of making art. The small 2x2in seemed small enough that I could commit to finishing one a day regardless of what else might be going on in my life. It was both a pledge and a promise to myself. In truth I believe that I was looking for a path, maybe a plan, back to a self that I could recognize on the inside.
By December 2023 I had accumulated 29 books in (each book has 18 pages), which equated to roughly 522 paintings. These little works feel like both poems and prayers. To whom, I can’t say…
I had no way of knowing back in December 2022 that these little books would see me through so much including, my daughters experience of competing in the 2022 Canada Winter Games, a trip to Boston to visit with my dear friend from Australia, four months of my father’s time in palliative care and his eventual passing, my 50th birthday celebration in Italy, our ‘daily grind’, and many other small but no less significant moments with those I love.
‘The zig zag books continue to be a daily practice for me, affirmations of my passion for creating.

Daily Practice
I began to make my small 5x5 cm paintings in December 2022. The initial drive was to get myself back to a daily practice of making art. The 5x5 cm format seemed managable enough that I could commit to finishing one a day no matter what else might be going on.. It was both a pledge and a promise to myself. In truth I was looking for a way back to a self that I would recognize on the inside.

‘Zig Zagging’ Through it All
I began to make my small 5x5 cm paintings one year ago this month. The initial impetus was to get myself back to a daily practice of making art; 5x5 cm seemed like a small enough size that I could commit to finishing one a day no matter what else was going on in my life. It was both a pledge and a promise to myself. In truth I was looking for a path back to myself as someone I recognized on the inside.
