Felting with Secondary Fibres and Structures @ NBCCD-part 4 (hat form)

This is my hat pattern made out of brown paper and covered in packing tape.

This is the colour swatch I have chosen for the wool.

Because the hat will be too large to dye in a pot once I have made it, I need to dye the wool before I create the felt hat. Here are photos from that process.
This is 225gms of merino wool in the dye pot.

..turns out that was too much wool for one dye pot – I have some unintended colour variations.

So the wool now needs to be carded to make the colour more consistent before I can felt it.

Here it is layed-out and in the early felting stage (it is being cut open from the bottom to expose what will be the brim of the hat)

But.. the brim is still too floppy. So I wet it out again (soaked the entire hat in a large bucket of water) and sponged fibre medium into the brim to stiffen it up. I then left it to dry over night with props holding it into the shape I would like the finished brim to hold.
