I want to say something. I have a certain amount of anxiety about publically sharing my personal making projects.
I have been presenting my ‘professional’ objects for years in galleries and in centres for art education, however now, out of a desire to challenge perceived hierarchies of medium and technique I see it as imperative that I share more widely and comprehensively, my making practice. My intention is to share a wider range of my work and to lend further validation and importance to all art practices this includes those traditionally seen as women’s home crafts, namely family crafts and holiday art. Specifically I am taking a feminist stance – not shying away from sharing and valuing work which too often falls into such ‘grey areas’. Recognizing the importance, cultural value, and historical relevance of works such as those I have mention, embraces diversity and values contributions to art and culture in all their forms.
Pheff! There I’ve said it.
